"Arctic Monkeys live at Budokan"

I went to see Arctic Monkeys live at Budokan on October 19th.
As you know The strokes initiated a new era of rock music, Arctic Monkeys also did that.
So I was really glad to see them. It seemed to be a dream.
I got mobbed because I was in the front row.
Especially from Brianstorm to The View From The Afternoon, the voltage of the audiences was really crazy.
I thought in this live, Alex showed earnestness for the music and audiences.
He said "You play nice, I also..." or "fabulous audience" like communicate with us.
And I felt Arctic Monkeys started to acquire kind of Eros or Energy or something like that.
And I also found one more thing from that live.
I used to like to listen to their up-tempo tunes but this live made me find the fact that low-tempo tunes are also super nice.
When I listened to Humbug using an iPod I thought I preferred 1st and 2nd.
But now Humbug became my precious album and I also found If You Were There,Beware and 505 are really good.
If they come to Tokyo again, I will definitely go to see their live.
Live at Budokan was really fantastic experience.
久しぶりの更新です。
19日にアークティックモンキーズのライブに行ってきました。
ストロークスと同様ロックの新しい可能性を提示してくれたバンドで、生で見られるなんて夢のようでした。
アリーナのEブロック最前列だったので序盤もみくちゃにされている感じで、特にBrianstormからThe View From The Afternoonまでがやばかった。
今回のライブ、アレックスの音楽や観客に対する真摯な姿勢のようなものが表れていたと思います。
”You play nice, I also...” 「君たちいいノリしてるね。じゃ俺も（頑張ろう）」
"fabulous audience"「素晴らしい観客だね。」
などと言って観客とコミュニケートしようとしていたし、演奏も最高だった。このバンドからは何か特別なオーラというかエロスみたいなものが出始めていると感じました。
そしてこのライブの収穫はもう一つあって、僕はアークティックのいわゆる攻撃的な曲が好きだったんですが、今回生で体験して、走ってない曲のよさに気づくことができました。
Humbugもipodで聴いてる段階では「やっぱ1stと2ndだよな」とか思っていたのですが、このライブを体験したことでHumbugが僕の中ですごく大切なアルバムになったし、2ndのIf You Were There,Bewareや505がものすごく心に響く曲だということにも気づきました。
また日本に来る機会があったら必ず見に行こうと思います。

Haruki Murakami / 1Q84
村上春樹 / 1Q84
I just experienced specific feeling that seems to be between real and unreal world after reading Haruki Murakami's latest novel "1Q84".
In this novel, there are a lot of impressive phrases and suggestions. I wrote them down in my notebook and finally the number of them reached ... a lot.
His interview in COURRIER Japon in the 2009 July issue, I found his interesting point of view.
-(Haruki Murakami)- What I think during writing a story and what people think by reading it don't need to be the same. Most of what I write are improvisatory and self-motivated. Even I myself can't explain them. Readers have a right to think that the stories are their own one.
The works of Murakami give us opportunities to think about myself, society and the thing between them.
The works of Murakami make us think about another capabilities that could happen in the real world.
村上春樹独特の、読み終わった後の現実と非現実を行ったり来たりするようなもやもやした感じを今、味わっている。
文中には多くの印象的なフレーズや示唆が溢れており、それをノートに書付けながら読んでいたらかなりの量になった。
彼はクーリエジャポン2009年7月号でのインタビューで以下のように述べている。
ー僕が書くときに思うことと、読者がそれを読んで思うことが一致する必要はありません。僕が書くものの多くは即興的で、自発的なものです。僕自身にも説明がつかない。読者は物語を自分固有のものにする権利を持っています。
村上文学は自分や、社会と対話するきっかけを与えてくれる。
本当はあり得たかもしれない現実を考えさせてくれる。
AI WEIWEI / ACCORDING TO WHAT?
I went to Mori Art Museum in order to see AI WEIWEI exhibition.
It was so fantastic.
The field of contemporary art is getting segmentalized recently and a lot of stuff can be "art" by adequate explanations.
But I think he is trying to deal with basic but important social problems and essential roles of art.
His works are conceptual and logical at the same time and he doesn't pretend to be "avant garde" but spontaneously his outputs become what we have never seen.

久しぶりの更新です。
森美術館にアイウェイウェイ展を見に行きました。
単刀直入にいうとこの展覧会は素晴らしかった。
多くのジャンルに細分化され、その解釈によってアートの領域はどんどん広がっている昨今ですが、彼は非常にストレートに、社会の問題や、アートの役割を追求しているなと感じました。
コンセプチュアルと同時にロジカルでもあるし、変にアヴァンギャルドさを狙っている感じはしませんが、結果として見たことがないアウトプットが立ち現れています。
是非見に行きましょう。

"CUT August 2009 no.251 Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0"

Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0 is featured in the August 2009 CUT.
I bought it because Yoshiyuki Sadamoto drew the cover and its color and taste are so cool.
In this magazine, we can read interviews of Kazuya Tsurumaki,Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and voice actors.
By the way, the cover of Switch vol.27 June 2009 was also so cool. (Ringo Shiina was featured)
Recently sales of magazines are expected to decrease because of internet or something like that. But I'm sure if a magazine has really good aesthetic quality and information, we are gonna buy it.
エヴァ関連でもう一つ。
8月号のCUTはエヴァ破特集です。
画像では分かりにくいですが、貞本義行の描き下ろしの表紙の質感と色味がかっこ良かったのでジャケ買いしました。
ちなみに中身は鶴巻和哉監督や貞本義行、声優の方々のインタビューが掲載されています。
そういえば椎名林檎が表紙のSwitchも最高にかっこ良かった。
雑誌不況といわれているけど確かな情報と、ものとしてのクオリティが高いレベルにあれば問題なく売れると僕は思います。
"Rebuild of Evangelion:2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE"
"エヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版：破"
I went to a cinema to see "Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE" on Saturday.
As everyone knows, Anime and Manga are Japanese contemporary cultures known by people in foreign countries.
At first I would like to explain about one of my favorite manga that is called "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" written by Hirohiko Araki. I think we can learn how to face life with courage and a lot of guiding philosophy by this manga. I'm sure we should read Jojo instead of a boring book about how to make a good life or something like that.
As I explained about Jojo, in the recent movie of Evangelion, we can simply feel how important will to achieve and compassion for others are. The time line is approximately same as the last Evangelion but Shinji, Rei and Asuka have changed their mentalities. And also fighting scenes are very exciting. That is very recognizable change and it makes the movie very nice entertainment one.
After seeing this movie, you might take care feeling of others.
I would like to see it again.

嵐のような忙しさが一段落したので、土曜日に「エヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版：破」を見てきました。
皆さんご存知のように、アニメや漫画は日本のお家芸としてもはや海外でも認知されている芸術文化の一つです。
僕は「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」が大好きなのですが、この漫画を読むだけで人生に立ち向かっていく勇気というか、意気込みというか、意志みたいなものが脳細胞に直撃するわけです。エンターテイメントとしても超一級品ですし、下手な人生哲学書を読むよりジョジョ読めばといった感じです。
前置きが長くなりましたが、今回のエヴァはこのような自分の意志を貫く心意気とか人に対する思いやり等が非常にわかりやすく描かれており、脳細胞に直撃しやすい仕上がりになっています。時間軸は旧作とほぼ同じなのですが、（旧作後の世界ではないかとの読みもありますが）シンジ、レイ、アスカの成長したメンタリティが一番の見所だと思います。そしてド迫力の戦闘シーンも見ていて楽しいです。
エヴァンゲリオンはなんだかよく分からないという人も単純に楽しめますし、この映画を見終わった後、人に優しく、自分に厳しく、ほんのちょっとでもなると思います。
久しぶりにもう一度見たいと思う映画でした。

アークティックモンキーズ関連でもう一つ。
彼らがストロークスのtake it or leave itをカバーしている動画です。

By comparison, this is The Strokes.
As for this song, I prefer The Strokes version.
I think what makes The Strokes impressive is kind of oppression and Arctic Monkeys don't have it.
But I think this difference is very interesting because Arctic Monkeys said that they were infected by The Strokes.
They were infected but they found own style.
That's why.
この曲に関してはやはりストロークスの方が好きですね。
アークティックモンキーズには気だるさがないからちょっとストロークスの曲には合ってないと思います。
しかしアークティックモンキーズはストロークスのガレージロックリバイバルの影響（だけではないようですが）を受けて出てきたバンドですが、このテイストの違いが生まれていることが意味があることなんだなぁとふと思いました。
影響されてそれを変化させてという循環で新しいものは生まれてくるという当たり前なことを考えてしまいました。

And They are coming to Tokyo and having a gig at the Budokan on October 19th.
I hope it's gonna be like Glastonbury Festival 2007.

"THE KALEIDOSCOPIC EYE"
"万華鏡の視覚"
I went to see THE KALEIDOSCOPIC EYE EXHIBITION in Mori Art Museum.
The subject of the exhibition is to change human perception but I think it is also one of purposes of art. So I felt the exhibition is not only about human perception but about basic contemporary art.
I think this kind of exhibition tends to be conceptual but John M. Armleder used six mirror balls to make space that I haven't ever seen. It's called "Global Dome Ⅻ". I'm really interested in it and it's incredibly beautiful.
And "Untitled" by HEIMO ZOBERNIG is also interesting. He reinterpreted Piet Mondrian's work and I think nobody has done it yet because everybody thought whoever could have done it and it was not so interesting.
"Isn't it new because the coloration and triangle are different from Mondrian's one?" This claim is sort of contemporary. And I lean to feel it's new because I feel he claims like that at the bottom of his heart.
Claims and intentions of artists can change what we feel from art works.
だいぶ前ですが森美術館の万華鏡の視覚展に行きました。
人間の知覚や概念を揺さぶるということが本展覧会の目的ですが、それは同時にアートの目的の一つだと思うので、様々なアプローチの現代アートまとめました展という感じでもありました。
えてしてコンセプチュアルになりがちですが、ジョン・M・アームレーダーの「グローバル・ドームXII」は、誰もが知っているミラーボールを使って見たことがない現象を発生させているという点で興味深い作品でした。そして単純に美しい。
あと知覚とは関係ありませんが、ハイモ・ツォーバニックの「無題」。モンドリアンを再解釈するという、ありがちすぎて誰もやらないことをやっていた点がなんだか潔すぎて心に残っています。なんとも見たことあるようでない感覚が生まれています。
配色変えて三角形にすりゃ新しいんじゃん？というなんとも現代っぽいアプローチですが、本人がこれがいいんです、と心の底から主張していることの強さによって、ありに見えてくるわけです。
作者がどんな意志を込めるかでその作品の生命感は変わります。
"押井守 / スカイ・クロラ"
I felt like seeing an animation film for no special reason so I rented The Sky Crawlers from TSUTAYA (DVD rental shop).
The director Mamoru Oshii gave a kind of message to young people who felt it difficult to find a reason to live. I do like this kind of film that describes fantasy but contains a message that is applicable to the present day.
The story, picture and music make the atmosphere of the film a little between asleep and awake, dream and reality...
As he said, these are the representations of metaphors for sense of stagnation to society and in a sense I felt the atmosphere was very beautiful.
I shouldn't explain which scene is good or bad because you can feel something from the whole story and atmosphere. So just see it.
But the one thing that I want to say is you should check what Yuich (main character) is going to do in the last scene and what is changed after that.
You can feel the message from Mamoru Oshii.
なぜだか 無性にアニメが見たくなり、直感でツタヤで借りてきて見ました。
押井監督は豊かな社会の中で、生きることの意味を見つけづらくなった若者へのメッセージを、作品に込めたそうで、空想を描きつつも現代に通じるメッセージが込められているという点で僕の好みです。
ストーリー、絵や音楽、世界観は靄がかかったような、夢の中のような、なんともまったりとした感じです。監督の言葉通り、これらは現代に漂っている閉塞感のようなものをメタファーとして表現しており、ある意味、美しい作品だと感じました。
この映画はある場面を取り出していちいち言葉で説明する感じではなく、全体を見て、個々人の視点で現代社会や自分が抱える問題との接点を感じる作品だと思うのでとりあえず見たら良いと思います。
しかししいて言うなら、最後に主人公函南優一がどういった行動に出るか。そしてその行動で何が変わったのか。
押井監督から若者へのメッセージが込められています。
